Abstract
291,898. Bannister, A., and Duffy, J. March 17, 1927. Energy-absorbing elements.-A brake for tubs in coal-mines, wagon ways, light railways, sidings, &c., on an incline, periodically raises an axle of the tub by means of an eccentric or oval toothed wheel 1 fixed to the axle and engaging a toothed rail 2 laid between the track rails. The toothed wheels may be fixed on a spindle independent of the vehicle axles, or a toothed flange may be fixed to the vehicle wheel. In a modification, a rail of wedges 3 may be laid between the, track rails, the wedge engaging the vehicle axles. A guard rail is provided to prevent the tube from leaving the track. A spring operated by a lever is adapted to engage the vehicle wheel.
