Be it known that I, GEORGE DELK', a citi'- Zen of the United States, and resident of South Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Rail Frogs; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full,'clear, and exact de.

My invention relates to a new and improved rail frog of the type which isv adapted to be used in running a car back on to the railroad track after it hasbeen derailed.
The general object of the invention is to provide a simple device of this character, formed in a single integral piece, which may simply be laid upon the rail and will retain its position thereon while the car is pulled back on to the rails.
It is also within the scope of the invention to provide a frog which includes a plurality of parallel tracks which converge towards and merge into the surface of the rail, whereby the car wheel may be rolled directly onto the frog and up on to the rail, regardless of the distance between the wheel and the rail.
In describing my invention, reference will be had to the accompanying` drawing, in which Figure 1 is a plan view of a section of a railroad track with my invention applied thereto.
Figure 2 and Figure 3 is an elevational view taken on the line 3 3 of Figure 1.
In the drawing, I have illustrated two frogs, 5 and 6, applied to the two rails of the track, and constructed substantially is a side elevation of the same,
alike, except that one is adapted to be laid p inside the rail, while the other is adapted to be laid outside thereof. Each frog is provided with a laterally extended integral flange 7 having at its outer end, a downturned lip 8, which is so shaped as to iit snugly over the rail 9. The lower inner edge of the frog is provided with an inclined Shoulder 10, which is adapted to engage the rail iiange 11, and in connection with the flange 7 and lip 8 to hold the frog firmly in its proper position relative to the rail. formed with one or more laterally inclined track portions l2 at the side of each of which is a groove 13 adapted to receive andguide the flange of the car wheel. All of these track portions converge towards and merge into the surface of the rail to which'the frog is secured, the inner end ofthe frog being downwardly inclined, as seen at 14. They outer ends of the track portions 12 are extended, as at 15, in .parallel relation to the directionof the road, .and their upper surpoint.

In using my invention, a pair of frogs,
5 and 6, are laid upon the rails lin front of the wheels of the car which has been de-` railed. The car is then propelled by any available power, so as to ride up on to the inclined portions 15, and upon further advance will be readily'carried along the lat-- erallyinclined portions 12, back on to the track. It will beseen that a railway frog has been provided for placing a derailed car back upon the track in such Aa manner that the tread of the wheels rides upon the track portions of the frog and the weight of the car is removed from the iianged portion.
It is well understood that the` flanged portion of the railway car wheel is the weakest carried out, it will be understood that minor changes may be made therein, withoutdeparting from the spirit of the invention.
I claim: l
A railway frog comprising a series of laterally inclined track portions converging toward a single track portion adapted to be mounted upon a railway track, said single track portion having an inclined terminal portion and having an integral depending `flange adapted to fit over the rail, Said frog having a series of grooves formed between the successive tra-ck portions to guide the flange of the oar wheel, whereby the flange `of the car wheel is relieved of the GEORGE DELK.
