Creel arrangements; thread guides; tension arrangements. - In a winding - machine in which actuation of a hand-lever 80, 61 operates to remove an exhausted supply spool and to feed a fresh spool into supply position, the strand is led from the spool S over a pulley 18 on a spring-controlled lever 19 and over a pulley 17 to the traverse-guide. A spool brake 85 having convex brakesurfaces is pivoted to the hand-lever and is withdrawn during the whole of the supplychanging operation. The brake 85 tensions the strand, the tension being kept uniform by the yielding lever 19, which also actuates the stop-motion when the supply is exhausted.
