Abstract
403,038. Shearing yarns. MACKIE, J. P., and MACKIE & SONS, Ltd., J., Albert Foundry, Belfast. July 5, 1933, No. 19107. [Class 120 (iii).] In a multi-spindle yarn-shearing machine in which each yarn is given a false twist and projecting fibres sheared off, means are provided for stopping the feed of any single yarn and for rendering the false twist device inoperative. Yarn passes from the bobbin 1 across a plate 3, where projecting fibres are sheared off by rotary cutters 4, to the false twist device 5 driven by a belt 13 and dog-clutch 12. The yarn then passes several times round two capstans 6, 7, one of which is driven from the shaft 17, and is finally wound up on the bobbin 8, which rests on a plate 18 on the spindle 19 driven through a clutch 20. To stop the feed and twisting of any yarn, the appropriate rod 22 is displaced by the handle 24 or 25 to the position indicated in dotted lines. This causes a pin 26 on the rod 22 to ride up an incline 27, whereby the rod engages the underside of the bobbin plate 18 and the clutch 20 is disconnected. The bobbin 8 thus stops and the yarn on the capstan 6 runs loose, whereby forward feed of the yarn ceases. A pin 29 on the rod 22 moves a lever 15, pivoted at 16, to declutch the clutch 12 and so stop the false twist device 5.
