Abstract

261,265. Fornaca, G. April 26, 1926. Starting.-In a starting-device comprising an auxiliary engine and compressor for supplying compressed mixture through a distributor to the engine to be started and also the current for igniting the mixture in the main engine, the auxiliary engine 9 is a two-stroke engine, with two cylinders having a common combustion chamber, and the compressor 19 on the opposite side of the crank-shaft 11 is provided with a sleeve valve 18 actuated by eccentrics 20 on the crankshaft. The engine 9 and compressor 19 are supplied with mixture by a spray carburettor 25, Fig. 3, through pipes 21, 21<1> and ports 26, 23, and mixture from the compressor passes to the main engine through a pipe 3 and a distributor such as described in Specification 253,452. The engine 9 drives a two-spark magneto 5, one distributor contact 28 being connected to the sparking plug 30 and the other to the distributors of the main engine magnetos. The mixture enters the main engine cylinders through non-return valves adjusted to open only when there is no pressure in the engine cylinders.
