Rasping and like apparatus.-In a modification of the apparatus for feeding wood grinders described in the parent Specification, rotary pressure-members pass into the hopper or magazine and compress the wood charge directly towards the grindstone, the pressure-members entering beyond the lateral sides of the magazine and into the charge and being adapted to traverse through the apparatus within the median line of the charge. As shown on the left-hand side of the drawing, openings F are provided along the lower portion of the walls of the magazine C in proximity to the grindstone D, and members or wheels A rotating on shafts B, preferably at both sides of the magazine, project into the openings F. Separating pressure members G inclined to the radii of the members A are provided on the periphery, and curved walls J connect the members G and form gaps or pockets H into which the logs L of wood drop. The pressure-plates G are so disposed that the end of a plate on one wheel is in line with the gap between two plates on the other wheel. As shown on the right-hand side of the drawing, the pressure-plates G<1> are pivoted at G<2> to the wheel E and springs e<3> are arranged between the plates and the wheel. Abutment portions e<2> on the wheel prevent) the logs from contacting with the springs; or cover plates may be provided. The shafts B may be adjustable by means of screwed spindles b<1>.
