Abstract

258,295. British Thomson-Houston Co., Ltd., (Assignees of Ruder, W. E.). Sept. 14, 1925, [Convention date]. Coating. - To protect articles made of an alloy of iron and chromium, the article is coated with aluminium and then heated to cause the aluminium to alloy with the surface metal of the article. An article of a malleable alloy of iron and chromium is coated with aluminium by the process described in Specification 3752/12 or by mixing powdered aluminium with a solution of nitrocellulose and amyl acetate or wood alcohol and applying the mixture to the article by spraying or brushing or if in the form of wire by the well-known dipping process and the coated article is then heated at a suitable temperature, e.g. 750-950‹ C. to cause the aluminium to alloy with the article to form a protective layer of an alloy of iron, chromium and aluminium. Specification 179,306, [Class 82 (i), Metals. Extract. ing &c.], is also referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) states that the articles may be made of an alloy of iron and nickel or iron, chromium and nickel. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
