Abstract

252,331. Strachan Tube Mill Co., (Assignees of Strachan, C. B.). May 25, 1925, [Convention date]. Revolving drum and loose internal edge-runners. -A grinding or pulverizing mill for ore, stone, &c. consists of a rotary cylindrical casing with a perforated diaphragm secured to an internal annular flange on each cylinder head so as to provide a. cylindrical chamber in each head, and containing a series of cylinders of progressively decreasing diameters which roll one within the other and are of a length equal to the distance between the diaphragms. As shown, the inlet and outlet heads 5, 6 are held against the ends of the cylindrical metal shell 4 by rods 7 which pass through the heads and are clamped in position by nuts 8. The inlet head 5 has a hollow cylindrical hub 9 through which the material to be crushed passes from a feed-hopper 12 into the chamber 16 formed by the perforated diaphragm 14, which is secured by bolts 17 against the inner face of the annular flange 13 on the head. The outlet head 6 has a central hub portion 18 keyed to the driving-shaft 19 and an annular flange 25 to which is bolted the perforated diaphragm 26. The internal cylinders 28 - - 31, which may be perforated, are of a length so as to just fit freely between the diaphragms 14. 26. A solid metal cylinder 32 is placed within the innermost cylinder 31. The crushed material passes from the chamber 22 through openings 23 in the head 6 into a discharge casing 24.
