Abstract

252,261. Barlow, H. G., and Turtle, V. L. Feb. 24, 1925. Piston packings.-In a split-packing ring, of the type having the gap closed by a wedge-shaped block b, and having eccentric inner and outer peripheries an obtuse-angled block b is employed the base of which is accommodated in the segmental space between the packing-ring and the piston body. The block b may be pressed outwards by a split spring ring c, by a leaf-spring having a peg engaging a hole in the block b, or by a spring housed in a radial pocket in the piston. The block b may have flanges b<1> at one or both sides, or a middle rib, engaging recesses in the ends of the piston ring.
