Abstract

199,841. Allen, R. April 3, 1922. Piston packing.- Two split rings b, b<1>, arranged side by side with their splits diametrically cpposite, are expanded by a radial plunger d at each split acting on the inner peripheries of both rings. The plunger has an extension f covering the split and received by a recess at the side of the packing - ring groove. In order to prevent rotation, each ring is recessed at the split to receive an integral or attached projection h on the plunger. The plungers may be housed in recesses in the piston body, or in casings j, and are pressed outwards by springs g.
