Abstract

251,730. Stevenson, D. March 10, 1925. Variable-speed friction gearing comprises an intermediate or idle face disc C adapted to connect driving and driven roller members a, b which disc is so mounted in a movable bracket D that it will take up an inclined position when disengaged. Thus when the disc C is moved into engagement, it contacts with the driven member b first, and so avoids wearing flats on that member. The gearing is of the type in which the speed is varied by moving the roller b across the intermediate disc, and in which members a and b carry clutch members for direct driving. The tilting of the bracket D is effected by a slot connection d with a fixed pin E, and by a spring F.
