Abstract
249,557. Preu, M. March 20, 1925, [Convention date]. Checks.-In mechanism for operating theatre and other seats, and for operating also the flushing mechanism in the case of closet seats, of the type comprising a foot lever and an oil &c. brake, a spring-actuated sleeve 4, Fig. 3, engages by means of a pin a slot in a hinge plate 26, and the brake 13 is interposed between another hinge plate 16 and a. fixed portion of the device. The spring connected to the sleeve 4 surrounds a fixed spindle 1 and is connected to a sleeve 9, which may be rotated to impart an initial tension to the spring and then secured in position, said initial tension holding the seat raised. By means of a pedal E, Fig. 1, connected to a lever 37 on the sleeve 4, the pin is moved in the slot in the plate 26, and the seat falls by gravity to a position where a pawl engages a ratchet tooth on the sleeve. When weight is applied to the seat, it is depressed further, the pawl being disengaged and additional tension being imparted to the spring; subsequent removal of the weight allows the spring to return the seat to its raised position. In the case of a closet seat the rising actuates flushing means C through a lever 29. The brake 13 contains liquid in a casing carried by the hinge plate 16, and a vane 17, Fig. 5, carried by the fixed spindle 1 has a small aperture 19. In an alternative form, the brake casing carries a member having a liquid passage 19, Fig. 22, provided with a regulating member 15<b>. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) states also that the invention is applicable to doors, and in a door-operating device, the brake has a large passage 53, Fig. 25 (Cancelled) fitted with a non-return valve 18, and a small passage 19. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
