Bomb-dropping. - A main device for releasing a bomb from an aircraft is combined with an auxiliary device, which, according to its setting before the main releasing device is operated, determines whether the bomb drops with its fuze armed or unarmed. As shown, the bomb 18 is held by a hook A controlled by a cam 1, the spindle of which is provided with a crank 7 connected by a link 8 to a crank 6 on a main spindle 5. The safety member of the fuze is attached to a ring 19 held by a hook 2 in conjunction with a spring lever 3. the hook 2 being connected by a rod 4 to a spring 12, which maintains the hook 2 closed. The main spindle 5 has an eccentric 21 with a connecting rod 9 jointed to a lever 10 pivoted at 11 to the rod 4. An auxiliary spindle 13 has a crank 14 carrying a roller 15 normally maintained away from the path of the lever 10 by a spring 16. When the auxiliary spindle is in that position. and the main spindle is operated by a pull in the direction 22 on a crank 20 on the spindle, the cam 1 is operated and the bomb 18 dropped; but the lever 10 moves idly and the honk 2 remains closed, with the result that the safety member is pulled out of the fuze when the bomb drops, the fuze being thus armed. If, before the main spindle 5 is operated, the auxiliary spindle 13 is turned by means of a crank 23 and set to a position where the roller 15 lies m the path of the lever 10, then, when the spindle 5 is operated, the lever 10 bears on the roller 15 and moves the rod 4 and with it the hook 2, thereby releasing the ring 19. The bomb 18 is released immediately after this and drops with its fuze unarmed.
