TIME APPARATUS FOR USE WITH SUBMARINE MINES.

To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JEAN REY, a citizen of the Republic of France, and a resident of Paris, France, engineer, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Time Apparatus for Use with Submarine Mines, which invention is fully set forth in the following specification.
This invention relates to improved time apparatus for those submarine mines which when released by the submarine boat carrying them fall together with their anchor to the bottom of the sea.
The time apparatus in accordance with this invention has for its object to liberate the mine from its anchor at the moment re quired and to allow its mooring rope to unwind, the time apparatus is automatically released directly the mine leaves the submarine by the movement of a cock or a bolt, the breaking of a member or in any other known way.
Three methods of carrying out the invention are illustrated in the accompanying diagrammatic drawing in'cases where the mine is fixed to the side of the submarine boat.
In Figure 1, the control is effected by the gid of a projection fixed to the submarine oat.
In Fig. 2 the control is efl'ected by the aid of a cock.
In Fig. 3, the release is effected by the breakage of an immobilizing member.
Figs. 4, 5 and 6 are diagrammatic views showing other constructional forms of means for releasing the timing device.

the attaching arrangement is illustrated diagrammatically in the form of hooks 0. The assembled mine and anchor are retained near to the submarine boat by any known means not illustrated. A time apparatus illustrated diagrammatically in the form of a dash-pot e the piston of which is forced to the right by a spring 7 is maintained stationary by a projection 9 carried by the submarine boat.
The time apparatus 6 becomes separated from the projection 9 when, at the moment of launching, the mine is detached from the submarine boat to fall to the bottom of the sea; it is now free to move. After a certain interval dependent on construction the hooks c are moved the extent necessary to free the mine from its anchor 12.

In Fig. 2 the opening of a cook it brings into action the time apparatus 6 A project1on 9 carried by the submarine boat, knocks the tail of the cook it and opens it when, on launching, the mine becomes detached from the submarine boat to fall to the bottom of the sea.
In order better to regulate the path of travel ofthe cock it near to the projection 9 a guide 2' may be provided to guide the mine with reference to the submarine boat.
The cock h when open allows the time apparatus 6 to operate. After a certain interval it actuates the hooks c as in Fig. 1.

6, or cause any other operation which brings into action a time apparatus of any type even other than those illustrated.
In Fig. 3 the projection is replaced by a fixed point 7a which brings into action the time apparatus 6 through the intermediary of a cable Z when, on launching, the minebecomes detached from the submarine to fall to the bottom of the sea.
The pull of the cable Z causes the immobilizing member 97. to break at m. The time apparatus 6, a certain time after being thus liberated, actuates the hooks 0 as described for Fig. 1.
When the mine has been thus liberated, it rises to a certain level below the sea surface and is then arrested by known mechanism and maintainediat the degree of immersion desired.
Claims 1. In a combination, a submarine mine provided with a separable anchor having a mooring rope-connection with said mine and adapted to be supported from the side of' a boat, releasable connections between the mine and anchor, sprlng-pressed means normally tendlng to move sa1d connectlons 1nto releasing position and timing means set into operation by launching the mine for delaying the operation of said spring-pressed release operating means to delay release of the mine from its anchor.
