Abstract

247,302. Reece, H. J. Nov. 15, 1924. Detachable stoppers secured by clamping devices; packing discs and rings for stoppers and lids. - Relates to the closures for bottles, jars, &c. described in Specification 237,314, and comprising a cambered or undulated surface on the cover or receptacle or both or on a sealing member whereby the cover is distorted from its normal shape when in the closed position. According to the invention, the locking edge 2, Fig. 1, of the projecting rim of the receptacle or the locking flange 8 of the cover or both are formed with a cambered or undulated shape, such as 9, so that the edge and the flange make contact with each other over substantially the whole of their adjacent surfaces. When a flat-topped receptacle is used, the necessary distortion of the cover may be produced by a cambered packing member which may be either a disc or a ring, but, as shown in Fig. 7, a cambered cover 6 provided with a cambered locking flange 8 is used. The centre portion of the covers may be either raised or sunk or be provided with annular grooves of V, U or other cross-section. In other forms, the centre 16, Fig. 5, of the cover is cut away, leaving a ring 6 which presses a flat or cambered closing member 17 on to the receptacle.
