Abstract

246,724. Starr, F. July 1, 1925. Hand driving-mechanism.-A vehicle is propelled in either direction by reciprocating, between the upper and lower parts of an endless chain, a member having a ratchet-like engagement with the links of the chain, so as to effect continuous movement of the chain in the same direction. The reciprocating member comprises parts 22, 16, 17 which slide between the vehicle frame members A, B and carry pivotally a part 24 having ratchet teeth 25 adapted to engage the endless chain 8 running over chain sprockets one of which is secured to the propelling axle. The part 24 may be tilted from the position 5-5 shown to the reverse position 5<11>-5<11> or it may be held in the neutral position 5<1>-5<1>, these adjustments being effected by a lever 27 and spring 28.
