Abstract

246,720. Johnston, J. M. T., and Collins, A. D. June 22, 1925. Fixed-chamber apparatus, varying quantity measured in.-The apparatus is particularly adapted for measuring liquids that generate fumes and comprises a container having means for delivering liquid thereto, an inverted funnel within the vessel having its stem extended to constitute a vent pipe for the fumes and an index mounted within the vessel in the region of the rim of the funnel and visible from outside the vessel. The container 3 is lagged with heat-insulating material 4 and is supplied with liquid from a pump through a pipe 11 in which is a three-way cock 5, one branch of which leads to an inlet and discharge pipe 7 entering the container at the bottom. The pipe 7 is fitted with a cock 9. The inverted funnel 13 is supported from a bridgepiece 17 spanning the container, a collar 21 secured to the stem 27 by a pinch screw 23 resting on the socket through which the stem passes. Two fins 25 are secured to the surface of the funnel and serve as an index for the height of the liquid. The stem of the funnel is graduated.
