Abstract

245,668. Paterson, W. June 24, 1925. Turning. - An attachment for lathes for machining hemispherical articles such as those used in the ball-and-socket joints of locomotive draw-bars comprises a quadrant 1 pivoted at 2 either to a rest 3 or directly to the lathe bed, and carrying adjustable compound slides 5, 6 on which the tool is mounted. The quadrant is moved angularly to machine a spherical surface 4 by means of worm gearing 9. After hardening, the work may be finished by a grinding- wheel 8 driven by an electromotor 7 mounted on the slide 5.
