Abstract

245,499. Crozier, R. H. Oct. 7, 1924. Retorts.-Vertical retorts for distilling shade &c. are built up of a series of flat standard cast iron sections F and semi-cylindrical end sections G formed with flanges by which they are bolted together, the opposite flat sections being connected by bracing flues D which serve to prevent distortion and convey the heat from the adjacent flue C through the interior of the retort. These flues are thicker at their tops which are formed in ridges and may contain steam passages S leading to outlets S'. The lower surface of the bracing flues may be extended to form vapour traps leading to outlets E. To increase the capacity of the retort the end sections G are removed and additional flat sections Fare fitted the old end sections G being added and the brickwork suitably extended.
