Oil, retaining; dust, excluding.-An axlebox shield comprises two dished telescopically engaging shells a, b, pressed apart by springs k. A felt ring c secured to the shell b excludes dust and oil leakage from the axle box is prevented by a resilient expansible ring d secured so as to permit radial movement thereof to the inside of the shell a. As shown, the ring d consists of a plurality of segments having a tongue and groove connection with each other and held round the axle by a spring g. The ring d has a shoulder e with a groove h in which a spring ring i is snapped. The ring i leads the oil scraped from the axle by the ring d back into the lubricating tray in the axle-box.
