Ball and float valves; closure members. - A float-operated valve 5 supplying steam to a whistle 16 for indicating low levels in steam generators is supported upon an internal pipe 3 carrying a ported guide 10 for the hollow float stem 7. The valve 5 is adapted to close the pipe 3 when the water level and float are up. When the level falls unduly, the valve opens and steam operates the whistle. For preventing steam from keeping the valve off its seat when it should be nearly closed, it has a hollow cylindrical projection 21 with ports 22 in it, and it also has an inverted conical projection 23 whereby the steam flowing past it tends to take the weight of the valve and float, and also counterbalances, in the direction of closure, unbalanced pressure on the float and valve.
