Abstract
274,633. Blakeborough, R. A., and Wood, T. July 8, 1926. Air traps.-A valve device for venting air from water mains of the type in which a discharge orifice is adapted to be closed by a buoyant ball valve has the upper part of the chamber a containing the ball valve d provided with three equidistantly disposed inwardly projecting members e, f one of which is provided with an axial discharge passage e<1>. The. axes of the projections are preferably arranged to be radial to the centre of the ball when it is seated. In cases where a free escape of air is required while the main is being filled, a second venting valve may be employed comprising a buoyant ball h or elongated float adapted to co-operate with an annular seat i. When away from its seat the ball is supported by a perforated hemispherical cup g carried by radial ribs b<1> on the casing b.
