Abstract

233,202. parsons, C. Baur-. July 17, 1924. Reservoir pens.-A reservoir pen is provided with a tubular ink-feeder in which a short length at the rear end is of considerably reduced cross-section, and the front end is formed as a flattened beak containing a narrow ink pocket and a long longitudinal air-admission slot. The reduced cross-sectional area of the feeder, which is of such a size that the capillary force tending to feed ink to the nib is balanced by the suction of the partial vacuum in the reservoir resulting from the outflow of ink, ensures that only a short thread of ink is formed, which, due to the movement of the pen during writing, is caused to flow down the walls of the cylindrical portion of the feeder in a thin layer so as to leave the centre free from ink. The feeder 1 is carried in a flexible airtight stopper 2 secured in the end of the reservoir 3 so as to enable the feeder to be adjusted towards or away from the nib. The nib 6 is secured in a head 5 of a tube 4 serving as a cover for the reservoir. The head is formed with a central tube 9 provided with longitudinal slots to permit of the adjustment of the feeder. The reduction at the end of the feeder may be obtained by flattening or by the insertion of a partition. The front, end of the feeder is flattened and cut away to a point, the pointed end being bent up so as to touch the nib.
