[Class 146 (iii)] In a fountain pen, an open tube D extends from the feed-bar A into the barrel C and opens to the atmosphere through a passage E in the feed-bar, one or more passages F in the feed-bar also connecting the barrel to the atmosphere so that when the nib-section B is inserted into a hollow stopper in an inkwell and inverted ink flows down the tube D into the barrel and air escapes through the passages F which, during writing, serve to feed ink to the nib. In order to facilitate the flow of ink into the reservoir, the end H of the tube D is cut obliquely, and no sharp bends are formed in the tube D and passage E. The tube D may be connected to the passage F and the passage E dispensed with. The passages E, F may diverge so as to be at diametrically opposite points at the lower end of the feed-bar.
