Abstract
666,145. Reservoir pens. WYVERN FOUNTAIN PEN CO., Ltd., and HARRISON, D. Jan. 25, 1950 [Jan. 25, 1949], No. 1983/49. Class 146 (iii). An ink feed device for a fountain pen comprises a cylindrical feed bar 1 having an ink feed channel 5 on its upper surface, a transverse recess 8 on its lower surface communicating with the channel 5 through peripheral grooves 9 and a longitudinal air bore 10 open at both ends which extends the length of the feed bar and intersects the transverse recess 8. A tube 11 is press fitted into the bore 10 and extends into the reservoir 6 to serve as a .breather tube. During writing ink flows along the channel 5 to a capillary aperture 7 and thence along the slit 2a of the tubular nib 2. If the ink flow is excessive the peripheral grooves 9 fill and ink flows into the recess 8 until the bore 10 is blocked by the ink, thus causing a depression in the reservoir 6 on continuation of flow of ink therefrom, with the result that the ink flow decreases until the bore 10 is cleared of ink.
