Abstract
1,171,238. Fountain pens. MONTBLANCSIMPLO G.m.b.H. 23 Nov., 1967 [10 Dec., 1966], No. 53346/67. Heading B6P. In a fountain pen, the feed bar 2 has a capillary groove 5 on the uppersurface thereof, for conducting ink from a feed control channel 4, Fig. 1 and (Fig. 5) to the under-surface of the nib 3. An overflow chamber defined by fins 7 communicates with the groove 5 via a semi-cylindrical annular gap 8 defined by the upper surface of the feed bar 2 and the inner surface of the nib section 1. An air supply channel communicates with the control channel 4 and comprises an inner, a middle and an outer section. A bore 11 through the front section of the nib section 1 constitutes the outer section of the air supply channel, and is covered at its inner end by a relatively closely juxtaposed fin 10 of the feed bar 1 forming a baffle. The middle section 9 of the air channel extends through the entire length of the overflow chamber below the fins 7. The inner section of the air supply channel comprises a channel (24, Fig. 8) which communicates with the control channel 4. The control channel 4, which extends transversely around part of the upper surface of the feed bar, allows ink and air to flow in opposite directions. From the central channel 4, the longitudinal capillary groove 5 as well as two parallel capillaries 16 (Fig. 9) and an air channel 17 lead in an arcuate path into the ink reservoir 20. The reservoir 20, which is screw threaded against a seal 19 into the nib section 1 of the pen, may be of the replaceable cartridge type, or as illustrated, a reciprocating piston self-filling type. The piston 21 has a socket-shaped axial recess adapted to conform with the shape of the rear end 15 of the feed bar. The annular cavity surrounding the end 15 constitutes a reserve ink reservoir, from which ink can be drawn, when the reservoir has been emptied in the normal way and the piston 21 is pushed forward to displace the ink from the cavity.
