231,587. Invernairn, (W. Beardmore), Lord, and Chorlton, A. E. L. Jan. 4, 1924. Oil, catching and removing.-In a lubricating system for internal-combustion engines employing crank-case compression, oil forced through a passage G in the crankshaft to a groove G<2> in the big-end C<2> passes through a central passage H in the connecting-rod C to the bearing between the connecting-rod and a member B fixed to the piston A, the member B being arranged as described in Specification 221,911, [Class 122 (i), Engine and like cylinders &c.]. Spring-pressed scrapers prevent leakage of oil at the top of the bearing. The oil is caught at the ends of the bearing by flanges J<2> and passes through passages K<1> to a passage K in the connecting-rod surrounding the passage H. The passage K communicates with an outlet K<2> from which the oil is thrown, being caught by a lip M' on an annular box M mounted on the crank disc E and being led into the interior M<1> of the box, whence it is thrown through holes M<4> into a collecting ring N fixed in the crank case. Opposed vanes M<2>, N<1> and troughs N<3> prevent the escape of oil, which is drained away through an outlet N<2>. Oil leaking from the big-end is also caught by the lip M<3>.
