242,769. Invernairn (W. Beardmore), Lord, and Chorlton, A. E. L. Oct. 28, 1924. Oil, catching, retaining, and removing.-In a' lubricating system for internal-combustion engines employing crank-case compression, self-adjusting metal packing-rings or segments are arranged at the ends of the bearing to prevent leakage of lubricant. Lubricant supplied to the bearing between a gudgeon pin A and the strap B of a connecting-rod C through a central passage C<1> in the rod and a passage B<1> in the strap rollects in annular chambers D at the ends of the strap and returns to a collecting device in the crank case through passages D<1> and a passage C<2> surrounding the passage C<1>. Escape of oil from the sides of the chambers D is prevented by split metal packing-rings E pressed against the pin A by springs E, the rings and springs being arranged within annular cover-plates E<3> bolted to the strap. Holes E<4> permit oil collecting behind the rings E to pass into the chambers D. Specifications 224,581 and 231,587 are referred to.
