Abstract

A single cylinder air compressor for vehicle brakes, has a crankshaft lubrication system with two bushes (5, 6) spaced apart on the spindle (9) extending from the crank (11), the gap (7) between them connected by a passage (8) through the casing to a line from the engine, through which lubricant is pumped. A film of lubrication travels over the spindle and can pass into a chamber (26) at the end, closed by a sealing ring (14). The lubricant which travels in the opposite direction can enter a sloping channel (24) through the crank (11) and form another film over the spigot (15) which carries a further bush (16) housed inside the big end (17) of the connecting rod (18). An alternative design shows an oil groove system for the bushes around the crank spindle, and without the sloping channel.
