Abstract
231,480. Zehnder, A. March 25, 1924, [Convention date]. Stationary batch-mixers with stirrers having complex motions; driving-mechanism. - The driving gear consists of bevel toothed gear and variable-speed friction gear, both mounted on a horizontal shaft, means being provided for throwing one or other into gear in accordance with the toughness or difficulty of mixing the substance to be worked. The driving shaft 1, Fig. 2 has splined thereon a sleeve 3 fitted with a friction wheel 5 and toothed bevel gear 4, engaging respectively a disc 6 and bevel 11, both mounted on a hollow vertical shaft 7 carrying the driving head 8. The disc 6 can be moved axially against the pressure of a spring 13 to disengage the friction drive by means of an eccentric operated by a lever 15, Fig. 1, and the driving bead 8 is provided with a radially adjustable slider 25 to which the mixing tool shaft 9 is attached. The shaft 9 passes through a guide 26 carried by a vertically adjustable holder 27. The bevel-gear 11 meshes with a bevel 12 on a short shaft 17 which drives, through reduction gear, a hub 20 socketed for the reception of an auxiliary tool. The driving-gear can be rocked bodily about the shaft 1 to vary the inclination of the mixing tool shaft.
