Stationary mixers with stirrers having complex motions.- In a confectionery &c. mixing machine in which the beaters have a planetary motion in a vertical pan and means are provided for driving auxiliarv machines, the coupling element, are so arranged that connection can only be made when the drive to the auxiliaries is inoperative; the driving gear for the beaters comprises change-speed mechanism mounted on parallel shafts, and hand-operated selective mechanism is provided for raising and lowering one or other of the mixing pans. The machine comprises a motor 1, Fig. 1, driving countershafts 5 which drive parallel shafts 17 through spur gears 16: the shafts 17 are fitted with clutches 18 for driving auxiliary machines such as mincers &c. The beaters are driven by bevel gears 9, 10 mounted on sleeves 8 which are loose on the shafts 17 and are driven through sliding change gears 6. As shown in Fig. 3, the shaft 43 of an auxiliarv machine is looselv fitted with a sleeve 36 fitting into a socket in the machine frame to enable driving elements on the shaft 43 and clutch-driven member 19 to engage. The clutch is operated by a rock shaft 39 which is furnished with a conical socket 38 the sleeve being provided with a similar socket 42 in which sockets works a pin 37. By these means the sleeve 36 can only be inserted and removed when the clutch is disengaged. The pans are supported on jaws 32 which can be raised and lowered by the operation of screw and nut mechanism through a hand wheel 22; a setting lever 26 operates clutch selective mechanism. The guide slots in the machine casing through which the jaws 26 pass are closed by plates carried by the jaws.
