Abstract

229,778. Backhouse, H. T. Dec. 3, 1923. Sheet carriers and smoothers.-In sheet-feeding apparatus of printing-machines, &c., of the kind in which the sheets are. carried on endless or like bands 17 and are pressed into contact therewith by pressure members, e.g. gravity-controlled rollers 10, the pressure members are arranged to be spring-controlled so as to damp out free vibration of the pressure members to allow the apparatus to work at high speeds. The roller 10 is freely mounted in an arm 12 pivoted on a U- shaped rod 13 carried by an adjustable sleeve 14 on a spindle 15. The arm 12 is controlled by a spring 18 so arranged that its pull is substantially constant, and is small compared with the action of gravity on the roller 10.
