Abstract

228,683. Gestetner, D. Dec. 28, 1923. Stencilling-apparatus; tripping-arrangements.- In duplicating-machines of the kind comprising opposed stencil-carrying members acting simultaneously on both sides of a sheet, one or both of the members comprises an endless band travelling over a pair of inking-cylinders. A stencilling unit, comprising inking-cylinders 2, 2<a>, a. stencil-carrying band 3, and a waver roller 4, coacts with a similar device 16, 16<a>, 17, 18 below it, sheets being fed in known manner from a table 24. The lower unit is mounted in a frame 20 adapted to be tripped periodically away from the cylinder 2<a> by means of a cam 13 and a bell-crank lever 21. The cam 13 is driven by a chain 9 from a shaft 7 and drives the cylinder 16 by gearing mounted in a frame 23 pivoted on an axis in line with the shaft 11 of the cam 13. In printing on webs, the tripping-mechanism may be omitted or made inoperative, and for printing on one side only, a flexible member constituting an impression surface may be arranged over one set of inking-cylinders.
