Abstract

229,586. Allen, Sons, & Co., Ltd., W. H., Knott, B. W., and Smith, T. Aug. 25, 1924. Regulating delivery by by-passes or return circuits.-The time of fuel admission and cut-off and the duration of the supply to a Diesel or like engine is varied by hand or a governor through a by-pass valve 12 arranged between a delivery chamber 9 and a suction chamber 5 and opened mechanically at every stroke. A cam 13 is mounted upon an eccentric 14 adjusted by hand or a governor, and is oscillated by a lever 15 connected to the plunger 1 by a link 17 which may be lengthened or shortened to advance or retard the time of the period of fuel supply. The cam 13 has shoulders 13<a>, 13<b> the movement of which is transmitted to the valve 12 through a studded lever 18 having a curved underside engaging the cam and which is pivoted upon a hand or governor controlled eccentric. The opposed surfaces of the cam and lever may be flat and the cam provided with studs engaging the lever. During the initial and final inward movement of the plunger 1 the valve 12 is open.
