Friction gearing.-Adjusting means for variable condensers, variometers, &c., comprises a pair of concentric spindles 1, 2, the outer one carrying the movable element and the inner one carrying a toothed or bevelled friction wheel 3 adapted to transmit rotation through an intermediate wheel 4 to a disc 5 which is frictionally mounted on the outer spindle 1. The degree of friction between the disc 5 and spindle 1 is adjusted by a nut 7 to an extent which permits slipping when the spindle 1 is directly rotated by its operating knob but enables fine adjustment of the movable ele. ment to be effected by rotating the operating knob of the spindle 2.
