Abstract

226,060. Arbon, P. Jan. 29, 1924. Wells. - An oil or gas saver for wells comprises two members M, S, each longitudinally divided and having its parts connected by transverse bolts, the members having a threaded connection whereby split-ring packings 6 may be compressed around the reciprocating cable &c. C; the lower member S contains semicircular packings 17 and fol. lowers 20 normally free from the cable but adapted to be engaged therewith by means of screws 22 to seal off the well during renewal of the packings 6. The saver is held against a packing 24 on the well casing H by screws 25 engaging a tapered surface 23. Guide rollers 9 may be provided for the cable. The inner surfaces of packings 17 may be diagonally fluted to conform to the surface of the cable.
