Abstract

Roller mills. - In extracting sugar from bagasse, the layer of bagasse is sprayed with water as it leaves the crushing-rollers, and the wet layer of bagasse is compressed immediately afterwards. As shown, a roller 14 is mounted in spring-pressed bearings 12 adjustable in the vertical guides 11<1> of standards 7 secured to the lower part of the frame of the sugar-cane mill A, B, C. The bearings 12 are adjustable by means of screws 15 acting on the springs 16 to regulate the pass between the roller 14 and the bottom roller C of the sugar-cane mill. The scrape 'blade 3 of the top roller A has an extension or ear 3<1> towards the roller 14 to guide the layer of bagasse, which is supplied with water from an horizontal spray-pipe 18. A guide-plate 19 supports the layer of cane between the roller C and the delivery belt 6. The compressing- roller 14 may be mounted in fixed bearings and may be positively driven.
