Abstract
189,216. Hinton, H. C., and Marsden, C. H. Aug. 24, 1921. Roller mills.-In a sugar-cane crushing mill, the rolls A are formed with intersecting right and left hand helical grooves A<2> of such crosssectional angle, exceeding 30‹ and preferably about 60‹, as to avoid clogging, the surface area ot tho portions A<3> between the grooves considerably exceeding the surface area of the portions removed in forming the grooves. The grooves A<2> serve as conduits for the escape of juice, and are preferably formed in addition to the usual narrow and shallow circumferential grooves A<1>. The rolls are preferably so mounted that the various points of intersection of the grooves A<2> in one roll come in turn opposite the centres of the portions A<3> of another roll.
