Abstract

Roller mills.-The preliminary crusher of a sugar - cane mill comprises two rolls, one roll having projecting ridges or corrugations to grip the cane, and the other roll having a relatively smooth surface but provided with deep narrow circumferential grooves to allow for the escape of liquid. The upper roll h, Fig. 3, may be of the Krajewski type, described in Specification 12,012/86, or other type having ridges or corrugations parallel to the axis of the roll or making a moderate angle therewith. The lower roll k may have a grooved surface g as shown, with the deep, substantially rectangular grooves f arranged at intervals as described in Specification 8162/14.
