Abstract

222,592. Lyons & Co., Ltd., J., and 'Crook, J. July 10, 1923. Folding tables invalids' tables.-Tables &c. with members hinged together, and stays adapted to retain them open, have the stays of springy material and each pivoted to one member and sliding in a groove in the other. The groove 20 in the table top 10 is so directed that the stay 22 is unstrained when the leg 11 is folded, and as the' leg is extended becomes progessively strained sideways in the groove so that it springs into a notch 23 when the leg is fully extended. The groove 20 is made as a channel in a block 19 on the underside of the top 10 and has an undercut recess along one side, and the bent end 22<a> of the stay is adapted to slide therein. The channel and undercut recess are formed by cutting in the member 19 a slot wide enough for both and then about half covering the slot by a longitudinal metal plate 21 with an inclined edge. The stays may be forced out of the retaining notches 23 bv a lever 25 operated by a handle 27 beneath the table. An invalids' table is formed of an upright member, a table top hinged thereto at its upper end, a base hinged thereto at its lower end, and stays as described between the upright member and the other two.
