Abstract

170,227. David, T. E. J. Dec. 21, 1920. Expanding tables. - An extension leaf 10, normally housed beneath the top fixed part 8 of the table, is carried on links 12 pivoted to notched sliding rails 2 and is raised into position by a spring 14 when the end rail carrying the legs 5 and a top 9 is pulled out. To close the table, the end rail is pulled out slightly and the leaf 10 is pushed down below the level of the top 8. The end rail is then pushed back until the parts 8. 9 meet. The long sides 1, 2 of the table frame are provided with double side rails 3, 3<x> which are secured to the sides 2. Runner blocks 6, mounted between the rails 3, 3<x>, are fixed to the sides 1, while ledger rails 13 extending the full length of the table top 8 are fixed to its underside. This arrangement permits extension without prejudicing the bearing strength of the table. Two buffer blocks 15 carrying compression springs 16 are fixed in the channel formed by the runners 7 assist in closing up the joint between the parts 8, 9 when the table is extended. The table may be retained in closed or extended position by means of a sliding bolt.
