TABLE.
Application filed July 6,
T 0 all whom it may concern Be it known that I, Enron JACOBSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Negaunee, in the county of Marquette and State of Michigan, have invented new and useful Improvements in Tables, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in tables, the general object of the invention being to provide means: whereby the table can be easily and quickly made longer or shorter as desired without putting in and taking out leaves.
Another object of the invention is to pro vide a central leaf with means whereby the same is put in place by simply pulling the two end parts of the table apart and which is placed in position under the table by pushing the parts together after retracting the locking bolts.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is a side view showing the table in fully extended position.
Figure 2 is a similar view but showing the central leaf in lowered position.
Figure 3 is an end view.
Figure 4: is a plan View.
Figure 5 is a longitudinal sectional view.
Figures 6, 7 and 8 are detail views.
In these veiws 1 and 2 indicate the end sections of the table which are each provided with a pair of legs 3 and a supportng block l which is placed between the legs of each pair. A central section or leaf the three sections are beveled, as at 6, so as to make a tight joint when the central section is in place. Bolts 7 are arranged in the end sections for engaging holes 8 in the 1923. serial No. 649,952.
central section to lock the central section in raised position. Depending pieces 9 are carried by the central section and links 10 are pivoted to these depending pieces and to the supporting blocks 4 so that the central section is movably connected with the end sections and when the end sections are pulled apart the links; will be straightened out so that the central section will be raised into position between the top parts of the end sections and when the end sections are pushed together the links will act to lower the central section. The central section is guided in its vertical movement by means of a rod 11 connected with the under face of the section and engaging a guideway 12 formed in the central leg 13 of the table. This leg supports the platform 14 in which is arranged the horizontal guideways 15 for the guide bars 16 which are connected with the blocks 4:.
From the above it will be seen that it is simply necessary to pull the end sections apart to raise the central section in place and to lower the end section the end parts are pressed together. The bolts hold the central part in raised position and the central leg acts to steady the central section in its movement. A spring 17 is placed in the bottom of the guideway 12 that helps to lift the central section and holds it in raised position while the bolts are being shot home. By this invention the table can be easily extended or made shorter without the bother of handling a number of leaves and the additional section is permanently con nected to a part of the table and cannot be mislaid or misplaced.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.
I desire it to be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claim.
lVhat I claim is A table of the class described comprising two end sections, each provided with a pair of legs, a depending part on each section located between the legs, guide members having their ends connected with the depending parts, a platform slidably mounted on the guide members, a leg for supporting the 5 platform, a central section, a stem thereon depending into the leg of the platform, a spring tending to press the stem upwardly and links connecting the central section with the depending parts of the outer sections for raising and lowering the central section as 10 the outer sections are moved towards each other or away from each other.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
ERICK J ACOBSON.
