Abstract
222,299. Marston & Co., Ltd., A., and Bryan, S. P. Sept. 5, 1923. Reversible locks; keyhole escutcheons. - In a rim lock, the latch-bolt, lock-bolt and locking mechanism are mounted between two parallel spaced plates to form a bodily reversible whole so that the lock can be readily adapted for use with doors of either hand. The fore-end plate p of the rim has two holes q of equal size for the latch and lock bolts which are of equal cross-sectional dimensions. Fig. 1 shows the lock mounted in the rim o. The. latch-bolt e with its follower j and boss k for the handle spindle l and the lock-bolt d with its tumblers, are mounted between the plates a, b spaced apart by screws c. Bosses n and escutcheon plates n<1> are arranged on each plate where the apertures for the handle and the key respectively are formed. In the form shown, the rim o is the stamped-up edge of a shallow box into which the mechanism is placed and secured bv a screw r, holes in the bottom of the box and in the cover plate (not shown) being made to accommodate the bosses n, n<1>. The head of the latch e is reversible by turning its shank g so that the lock may be further adapted for doors opening outwards or inwards.
