Abstract
222,191. Constantinesco, G. June 23, 1923. Addition to 205,293. Variable-speed ratchet gearing adapted for oscillating members of high frequency, and comprising intermediate cam-urged friction or positive grippers or pawls such as g, Fig. 5, is modified by the interposition of balls or rollers such as c between the gripper g and the oscillator f. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 5, the cam action for thrusting the gripper g against the rotor o is obtained by inclines similar to the inclines b, Fig. 2. The gripping face of the gripper g, Fig. 5, may have small teeth, or may be provided with a friction pad. When the friction is obtained by metal-on-metal, the gripping surface is preferably castellated as shown at n, Fig. 7, so that oil may be pressed out from between the gripping surfaces. In the construction shown in Fig. 16, the grippers 42 are pivoted members thrust outwards by the balls 46 in arcuate recesses in both the oscillator 43 and the grippers. Arrangements are described in which the pivoted grippers are thrust inwards against the rotor. Specification 217,684 is referred to.
