Description

4 H. A. CLARK ECCENTRIC DRILLING ATTACHMENT I Feb. 12 1924.
Filed March 3. 192 3 WITNESSES I Patented Feb. 12, i924.
OFFICE.
HARRY ALBERT CLARK, OF WIGHI'IA FALLS, TEXAS.
ECCENTEIC DRILLING ATTACHMENT.
Application filed March 3, 1923. Serial No. 622,666.
T all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HARRY ALBERT CLARK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Wichita Falls, in the county of Wichita and State of Texas, have invented a new and useful Eccentric Drilling Attachment, of which the following is a specification.
The object of the invention is to provide an eccentric drilling attachment to be used chief advantage of this invention resides in the fact that a longer stroke is obtained by the use of this invention.
A further object of the invention is to provide a quick acting drilling attachment of the character hereinafter described.
Another object of the invention is to. provide a device of this nature that is very simple and practical and can be manufactured and sold at a very nominal cost.
The nature and advantages of the invention will be better understood when the following detail description is read in connection with the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this application. The invention resides in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts as claimed.
In the accompanying drawing the various parts will be referred to by numbers. And, whereas,
Figure 1 is a front view.
Figure 2 is a side view.
The device forming the subject matter of this invention comprises a shaft 1, which is mounted in bearings as shown at 2. The bearings are attached to a frame as shown at 3. 4 is a sprocket mounted upon the shaft 1. 5 is one jaw of a dental clutch of the usual design. The jaw 5 forms a part of the sprocket 4;. 6 is an eccentric cam mounted upon the shaft 1. 7 is a jaw of the dental clutch, which is designed for association with the jaw 5. 8 is a loose band mounted upon the eccentric cam 6. 9 is a flange which is attached to the band 8. 10 are rollers arranged on the flange 9. It is in connection with cable tool drilling. The
not essential that the flange 9 and the rollers 10 be used, however, the same is a part of this invention, therefore, it is included. 11 is a clamp attached to the band 8 as illustrated in Figure 1, for the purpose hereinafter described.
The invention is operated in the following manner: The end of the rope 12 is anchored to some stationary part of the machinery, and the clamp 11 is tightened over the rope to prevent the same from slipping on the loose band 8. The end of the rope 13 is run through the crown block or pulley of the drilling machine and has the drilling tools attached thereto. In operation it will be noted that when the dental clutch, as described by the numerals 5 and 7 is engaged and power applied to the sprocket l, the eccentric oam 6 will revolve, thus raising and lowering the loose band 8, over which the rope is arranged, and providing the drilling motion that is required.
While it is believed from the foregoing description the nature and advantages of the invention will be readily apparent, I desire to have it understood that I do not limit myself to what is herein shown and described, and that such change-s may be resorted to, when desired, as fall within the scope of what is herein claimed.
What I claim is:
An eccentric drilling attachment of the character described, comprising a shaft mounted upon suitable bearings, a sprocket on said shaft having half of a dental clutch thereon, an eccentric cam on the shaft and having the other half of the clutch thereon, a loose band over the eccentric cam, a flange on the band and carrying rollers, and a clamp arranged transversely of said loose band.
