Abstract
221,982. Crossley, F., Ford, Ayrton, & Co., Ltd., and Greenwood & Batley, Ltd. Oct. 30, 1923. Silk-dressing machines. - In a circular dressing-machine of the kind in which the combing is effected by card clothing mounted on travelling lattices, the cards E are mounted on bars e, carried by chains C passing over pulleys c, c', c<2>, and are so controlled by guides F that they first approach gradually the main drum D and subsequently move parallel to it. The guides are in two portions F<1>, F<2>, both of which are adjustable. The pulleys c<1>, c<2> are in a vertical line so that the waste can be removed by hand as the cards move upwards between them. A brush G presses the waste into the cards, and a wooden roller L acts to cause the fibres on the drum and on the cards to hang vertically as they enter between the drum and the cards. A guard H hangs vertically in front of the returning cards to protect the operative during stripping. The guard is connected by links j - - j<3> to the belt motion of the main drive, so that any movement of the guard towards the cards will cause the machine to be stopped. The cards may be mounted on a travelling sheet &c., stretching across the drum.
