Direct air-pressure apparatus, non-automatic; valves for liquid, arrangement of; valves for pressure fluid, arrangement and actuation of.-Pneumatic apparatus for raising or forcing liquids and semi-liquid such as heated bitumen comprises a vessel 1 submerged in the. liquid and provided with an inlet valve 5 and a delivery pipe 10 for the liquid. The stem 11 of the valve 5 is connected to the trunk 12 of a piston 13 in a cylinder 14. which is connected by ports 16, 17 and pipes 21, 30 to a valve 18 controlling the supply of compressed air &c. The piston 13 and trunk 12 are hollow and the trunk has perforations 15, so that when pressure fluid is admitted to the top of the piston by the port 16 to depress the piston and close the valve 5, it passes through the holes 15 into the vessel 1 and discharges the liquid. The pressure fluid passes to the port 16 when the passage 25 in the valve 18 is coaxial with the air supply port 19. When the valve 18 is turned to cut off the port 20 from the port 19 and connect it to a port 22 open to atmosphere or to the vessel 1, the pressure fluid passes by the port 27, pipe 30 and port 17 to the under side of the piston 13 and opens the valve 5 to allow a fresh supply of liquid to enter the vessel 1. When the valve 18 is turned so that the port 26 is open to the port 19, the air passes through a pipe 23 into the lower part of the vessel 1 to stir the liquid. The valve 5 and its stem are enclosed in a cage 2 which is inserted in the vessel 1 through an aperture in the top.
