Abstract

295,544. Knorr-Bremse Akt.-Ges. Aug. 18, 1927, [Convention date]. Direct air-pressure apparatus, non-automatic.-Vehicular apparatus for spraying tar &c. on roads by means of air under pressure supplied by a compressor 2 driven by the propelling engine 1 has the compressor mounted on a tractor and the compressed air tank 5 and tar tank 6 carried on a trailer 3. When the suction of the compressor is utilized for filling the tar tank, a float valve 12, Fig. 2, is provided on the tar tank to shut off the tank from the suction pipe when the tank is full. The compressor draws air from the atmosphere through a perforated cap 9 and delivers through a pipe 4 to the compressed air tank 5. The air under pressure in the tank 5 passes by the float valve 12 and acts on the tar in the tank to spray tar through a pipe 19. When the valves 8, 21 are closed and the valve 11 is open, suction through a pipe 10 acts to exhaust air from the tank 6 to permit tar to rise through a filling pipe 18, the float 17 rising to close the suction pipe 10 when the desired level is reached. A safety enlargement 20 in the pipe 10 also prevents tar from reaching the compressor. The pipes 4, 10 are fitted with detachable hose unions and the compressor 2 is readily detachable to permit the tractor to be used for other purposes.
