Abstract

344,081. Tar heating and spraying apparatus. LINNHOFF, E., (trading as LINNHOFF MASCHINENFABRIK UND KESSELSCHMIDE, E.), 19, Oberlandstrasse, Tempelhof, Berlin. Dec. 6, 1929, No. 37509. Convention date, Feb. 13. [Class 107.] Vehicular apparatus for heating and spraying tar is driven by an internal-combustion engine the exhaust gases from which are fed by a pump to the tar-container for expelling the tar, the pump being also used for supplying air to the combustion apparatus for heating the tar-container. The Figure shows diagrammatically the connections between the parts of the apparatus, the complete installation on the vehicle being described in the Specification. The pump h is used to draw the exhaust gases from the engine b through a threeway cock c, cooler e, three-way cock f and pipe a<2> and deliver them under pressure through a pipe a<3> into the space above the tar in the container i. A cock in an atmospheric pipe a<4> is closed to prevent the escape of the gases. The cocks c, f, j are connected by linkage with a lever k and are simultaneously operated when the lever k is moved to the dotted line position. The pump then draws air through a filter g and delivers it to the oil or like burners of the furnace used for heating the container the air passing to the pipe a4 being vented to the atmosphere through an automatic valve l. During this method of working the engine exhausts through a silencer d. By turning a valve m, the pump connections are reversed to produce a partial vacuum in the container to permit tar to flow into it from an external tank, the valve l closing automatically during this action. In addition to supplying air to the combustion apparatus the pump may feed nozzles for blowing away dust prior to tarring.
