Abstract
946,884. Dual fuel engines; power plant. SCANIA-VABIS A.B. Jan. 17, 1962, No. 1779/62. Headings F1B and F1Q. To start a plant comprising an engine 1 associated with a gas producer 8, the engine is started on liquid fuel and the exhaust gases are diverted by a valve 4 through a pipe 6 to the producer 8, to kindle the fire therein, until the producer has reached its operating temperature, when the generated gas is fed through pipes 8a, 9a, 13 to the engine intake manifold and the engine exhaust gases are directed to atmosphere through pipe 5. As shown a valve 7 is controlled conjointly with the valve 4 to close the gas producer air inlet when the valve 4 closes the outlet 5 and open the air inlet when valve 4 closes the pipe 6 and opens outlet 5. A valve 14 shuts off the gas supply pipe 13 from the inlet manifold 15 and connects it to an outlet 18 during starting, the engine being supplied with air through a branch inlet 17. The generated gas is fed through a cleaner 9, moisture trap 10, cooler 11 and a mesh cleaner 12.
